• Ubuntu/JNS Door Games/dosemu2

From RickV@1:154/110 to All on Thu Aug 20 23:40:31 2026
    Hello everybody!

I am unable to get any JNS games to run under Ubuntu, dosemu2. I have gotten most of my other dos games to work, Sunrise and a bunch of other classic doors working. Can anyone share there sbbs cfg and the games cfg setting for one JNS game (5 Card Poker maybe) with me?

This is all running under Ubuntu, with dosemu2.

    Thanks,
    RickV

I have those doors running with (original) dosemu, and shared my configs
with you already. I take it that didn't work? I suppose there may be differences in how dosemu/dosemu2 handle things, but it works fine here.

I did see your cfg's setting. I tried those, but I think that with dosemu2 it's different. I do have 3/4's of my doors working but for some reason the JNS doors just won't work. It's just so easy to get them all to work under Windows 11 I should just run my system with that.

My next question is menus in the external menus setting coming in another message. :-)

This is all running under Ubuntu, with dosemu2.

What happens when they run? Does dosemu2 launch and produce an error message?

I run my BBS in Linux Mint (very similar to Ubuntu), and I use dosemu2. I have some of the JNS doors installed and working.

This is my SBBS config for Tri-Bingo:

    Name : Tri-Bingo
    Internal code : TRIBINGO
    Start-up Directory : ../../doors/TRIBINGO
    Command Line : DOOR.BAT %#
    Multiple concurrent users : Yes
    Native Executable : No
I/O Method : FOSSIL or UART
Use Shell or New Context : Yes
BBS Drop File Type: DOOR.SYS (52 lines)
Place drop file in : Node Directory

This is the DOOR.BAT I use for Tri-Bingo (note: Your drive letter & directory may be different)
    @ECHO OFF
    E:
    CD \TRIBINGO
    SET TBNODE=%1
    TRIBINGO.EXE TRIBINGO.CFG

    And my TRIBINGO.CFG:
    1
    Y
    Digital Distortion
    Eric Oulashin
    DOOR.SYS
    D:\
    LOG
    E:\TRIBINGO\SCORES.ANS
    E:\TRIBINGO\SCORES.ASC
    GAP
    Registered
    70
    3
    10
    11

One thing I do to debug dosemu2 stuff is, I created a script so that I
can manually launch it with the same settings I use for Synchronet, and then within dosemu2, I go to the door directory and manually try to run it and see what happens - Then I may be more easily able to see any error messages produced.

After looking at my configuration & batch file, I remember these doors are unique in that there is an environment variable set in the batch file before running the door (in this case, TBNODE). Did you do that for your JNS doors? I think that's a unique thing about these JNS doors.
