  • Not HAM, but who also does GMRS?

    In my area, more and more HAM-ops are also doing GMRS repeaters as well. One of the old-heads repurposed an old HAM 'tower' and repeater into a GMRS one and has allowed people from far away to be able to access and make contact.

    Just wondering if any of you also take part in the quest for contacts or not?

    Yes and no .. back before they merged FRS/GMRS, you had to have one just to "properly" use the dedicated GMRS channels. Now that they are all merged, you only are required to have the license if you 1) want to use MAX POWER on those channels (still being limited on the FRS 467. freqs,) 2) want to use the GMRS repeaters (FRS radios aren't programmable nor allowed to TX on GMRS repeater channels).

    Yes, but there is no test. (Use max power listed per channel pairs and/or want to use the repeater systems.)

    No, if you just want to use the 22 channels
    on limited power listed for each channel set, and use them as a Walkie-Talkie. (Think of these as those radio walkie talkie packs in Walmart).

    Apparently so. I don't believe you need one for FRS radios,
    though.

    Do "license for GMRS" with your favorite search engine, and you
    should find several links.
