In the US, are you required to have a license to use the GMRS, as you are to use HAM radio?
Yes and no .. back before they merged FRS/GMRS, you had to have one just to "properly" use the dedicated GMRS channels. Now that they are all merged, you only are required to have the license if you 1) want to use MAX POWER on those channels (still being limited on the FRS 467. freqs,) 2) want to use the GMRS repeaters (FRS radios aren't programmable nor allowed to TX on GMRS repeater channels).

No, if you just want to use the 22 channels
on limited power listed for each channel set, and use them as a Walkie-Talkie. (Think of these as those radio walkie talkie packs in Walmart).
