Yeah - that's the plan LOL - we've had our six year old grandson here
for six weeks. Sadly he's going home this weekend... His bedroom is
where I have the radio, so I've just had it unplugged while he's been
    here.

Next week my wife has a conference, so we won't be home, but after
that things will be back to a normal-ish schedule. We work for a
public school and will be back 'at work' so I'll be checking in
    the evenings...

Okay - quick update, since I've not been on a BBS is a while...

Temporarily mounted a J Pole on an extension ladder and leaned it
on the side of the house - LOL I was hitting repeaters around
with NO problem - could hit Memphis (about 80 miles away) sometimes.

My wife's uncle has some old tower pieces in his yard he wants
out of the way, so today he's bringing me about 50 feet of the
'triangle' type. Next step is to get it installed and see what
I can do... If the J Pole isn't enough I'll get a base station
    antenna to put on it.

Another quick update - told him it would be a week or so before
I got around to actually mounting the poles, so he hasn't dropped
    them off yet.

I keep an American flag hanging from the front porch. I have thought
about moving it to the new pole when I get it mounted. Is it okay
to mount a flag BELOW the top of the mast? Below the antenna?

...I've just had it unplugged while he's been here.

Unfortunate. That would've been a perfect opportunity to introduce him to the hobby.

    ...I have my General...

Got an HF rig yet? If not, I highly recommend the ubiquitous Icom 7300.

Oh I've done that! Using the mobile rig in the truck. He's talked
on it, as well as a handheld at his house in Indy. :-)

He's used to a fairly early bedtime, and we were playing or
reading or whatnot until bedtime. :-)

I do not yet. I'll look that one up.
