    From Glenn Rossi@1:275/301 to Fidonet.DOORGAMES on Mon Mar 25 09:46:28 2024
So, I've been giving away free copies of the registered version, branded
to your BBS and with all of the extra levels as well as the Monster and
    Level Editors.

...and yet, someone has still taken the time to write a crack for it to
remove the demo timeout, branding and other stuff.

    Classy.

to get a branded copy. you sound like that bbsfiles guy.

just dont be a dick and put one up for everyone to use.

My friend and business partner, Bill Reamy, wrote Stickman for our BBS.
He died last August. I decided to put up a memorial page for him and
his little door as a remembrance:

    http://www.ipingthereforeiam.com/bbs/stickman

I started branding copies and giving away the full version based on a
simple email request. I asked people to donate to the ASPCA in Bill's name.

I don't know why you or anyone else wants to shit all over that, but
    whatever, man.

Because it's a stupid way to do it.

put out a copy that says
    registered to:Sysop

or registered to:Dedicated to the Memory of <name>
    BBS Name: BBS

Then put a textfile in there and say donate to the aspca in his name.

It just seems like you're trying to use this to promote what you do or
create some recognition about some guy we don't know.

Just put it out or don't put it out.

Whats with "the mother may I" stuff? I hate it when people do that. Life is too short and the bbs community is too small.

That is disappointing. Maybe they were not aware that it was free-registerable? I saw where someone created one that changed the key mappings, but hadn't see the crack. :(

It is leaps and bounds better than what most people normally do... abandon

btw, i do this a lot and i'm sure you're running some of the registered games i've released.

it's better to just create a copy for everyone to download that is registered. that way you don't have to bother someone that might not be around in the future. shit happens.

You mean the document from 1995?

Here, i have a better idea(you won't like it because I thought of it):

Put it up registered for download.
Make it postcard-ware. People that download it can send a pretty postcard
and then you and the girlfriend and parents have something nice that is a physical tribute to your friend's doorgame from 1995.

Can't get any more sentimental than that.

It's probably better for this 'crack' archive to have information about your vanity registration so I will put the information into the archive and put it
    on docksud.

just do something like this https://pixeldrain.com/u/NYGtcCaJ
then people can know where to go if they want a vanity registration.

I also suggest you put better install instructions for the doorgame on your website and/or archive. Not everyone needs to use dosbox-x.
