    Daniel Traechin:

Would you be interested in helping with decisions on
    formatting, publishing frequency and all?

I suggest that you look into `nroff' as formatter. I have
used it with great success to format the CoreOps newsletter:

I usually don't necro old posts, but this is a relatively dead echo so it's appropriate in my eyes.

A fidogazette could be completely reformatted from what it was. As noted previously, it could be largely unrelated to FTN's in particular, yet still include relevant info about it. Maybe call it 'FidoGazette 2.0' or 'The New FidoGazette.'

A group interested in a project to kick it back into existence could volunteer time to design a format, agree on a frequency (weekly, monthly...), decide on deadlines for formatting/editing, and contribute. If there's interest, I'll raise my hand and contribute - but I won't do it alone because boredom will set in and it'll die again. I'll need others to keep me engaged. I know myself.

I've had thoughts about contributing to the old fidogazette but that was before it died. I wrote a story for submission on another bbs ezine, but that project - too - is inactive. I have an unpublished piece sitting on my harddrive that hasn't been read by anyone but my wife.

A fidogazette could include stuff like:

Strange news from around the US (or anywhere) - Something like a news piece from a small town from some random state. Maybe it's humorous or strange. Think 'strange news' articles from other platforms. Citing sources would be a must.

Bits from history - On this day one hundred years ago... or Famous people born on this day in history... You get the picture.

Interesting gopher holes - list the gopher address of an interesting phlog or other gopher locations of interest. And a short description on why it made the gazette.

Interesting usenet newsgroups - Some of us still utilize usenet. Would help to keep it alive in the BBS world. Maybe funny quotes or something.

New movies out in theaters this month

    A movie review

Discussion on a tv show episode. Maybe a review of a tv episode.

A BBS comic - Maybe someone can create an ASCII-art comic strip and publish it on some basis. If someone had interest in doing so of course.

The beginning would list contributors and acknowledgments. A table of contents. The end bit would include adverts for BBS's. Maybe a few per issue and rotating.

Maybe also a list of previously published gopher hole addresses from previous issues. Or a listing of BBS's submitted by active sysops.

These are simple ideas off the top of my head. If anyone's interesting in setting something up, let me know on here or send me netmail. I bbs mostly on
bottomless abyss. I'm also on MRC/IRC.

    //Hello Daniel,/

I have always missed the Fido Gazette.

If submitting copy is what it takes, then I will do my best.

The otherplace I wrote for was the "Humber College Student Voice."

Back then I was bad at it and cynical.

If you want to read it, you have to write it.

I would like to write about fido and PEI, but I doubt
    it.

    Cheers,
    Alan

Would you be interested in helping with decisions on formatting, publishing frequency and all? Or are you simply interested in submitting content?

I'm fine either way. I'm about to hit a few other echoes on Fidonet for any other interested parties.

I'll see if I can find your netmail and send a quick message to get conversation going.

The same recipes which have been regurgitated already twice or thrice ?

That is just what I was going to say, Ward. I can see original family recipes, or some such, but not ones that have come from one of Fidonet's existing echo mail areas... what is the point?

    Take care,

In addition, around 2000, didn't the flagship fido newsletter
republish the contents of previous snooze editions? I thought
    that was pointless.
