Never mind. Tommi pointed out what was wrong with my NNTP server. It was something that was previously fixed on Jamnntpd, but not Smapinntpd. I added it in and it's working as expected now. Thank you for trying to help, though!

It seems that your haven't applied the 'min/max' bugfix to your smapinntpd. So your server always reports "no new messages".
You're right! This whole time I had a feeling I was missing something while porting things from jamnntpd to smapinntpd early on.
Very wierd, though, that this issue only affected tin, and no others (oddly enough, the original patch was provided by a guy from tin.org). :)
Search for:
sockprintf(var,"%s %lu %lu y" CRLF,g->tagname,min,max);
It should be:
sockprintf(var,"%s %lu %lu y" CRLF,g->tagname,max,min);
There was two lines that needed that change. I went back and took a look at the patch on the 'ftnapps/jamnntpd' repo and made the change.
That did the trick. Thanks!
Regards,
Nick

This one for sure is a year 2020 bug in Concord. The msg was
written in July 2020, so I believe I was not aware about the bug
back then.
So most likely, those date issues he has seen are a few years old now.
He can probably disregard those as they have probably already been
fixed?
I totally can disregard this "inconvenience". :-) It's only when the news reader does "Get all messages from the server" do these oddly dated msgs appear at the bottom as being the "most recent". If I limit the number to some reasonable value (20..50) they're not showing up.

Ah ok. So distro specific, probably. :)
It seems so, there's some other system based on Debian Buster at my workplace and it installs a very old version of tin (something 2.x from 2018).

If it's only a handful or two of messages and they're a couple years old already, you could just delete them from the nntp server.

maybe turn it off until it's fixed, there is no reason to get back bad data in a testing area. on othernets there is more problems, like your origin is always your fidonet node number, etc...
