I am not sure which Latin flavor it was, one or two, or three haha or CP-something, but I can tell for sure that it was 8-byte encoding and not UTF-8.

Your CHRS kludge says UTF-8 but the body text is LATIN-1.

How can I see that is LATIN-1?

I did by pressing Ctrl-J and selecting LATIN-1 to view it properly. (In my GoldED+ setup I have conversions to CP850 from CP437, LATIN-1 and Michiel's partial UTF-8.)

You can check that it is LATIN-1 by viewing the hexdump (Alt-I) of your message. You will see that, for example, the first one (ì, lowercase i with grave accent) is hex EC. That's ISO-8859-1 (or CP1252) AKA Fidonet LATIN-1.

    Fabio,

If your terminal is set to ISO-8859-1, you may be interested in checking what I posted here on 1.1.2023. I made the equivalent of Michiel's CP850<->UTF-8 chs files, but for LATIN-1<->UTF-8.

It could be broken in my response, because I've converted it to KOI8-R. :)

Your CHRS kludge says UTF-8 but the body text is LATIN-1.

To make it correct - you need to have XLatExport set correctly.

How can I see that is LATIN-1?

    Do two things:
    1) check what CHRS kludge is set for that message (press K in message reader). 2) Press I and it will show you hexdump of the message. Then you may check if actual bytes are correct.
