• The American economy

From Joseph Pereira@1:124/5016 to All on Thu Apr 3 02:29:56 2025

Things are going very badly in the US very quickly and in places where you would not expect it.

    Florida is emptying out quickly!

They are not leaving because there is a governor who is as crazy as Trump, but it is all much more banal.

They are leaving because life in Florida has become much too expensive.

Construction was going on very hard and good prices were paid... until it was over. Many investors and homeowners are now stuck with unsellable houses or they have to accept a 20% or more drop in house prices.

However, it is not only the top of the housing market that is doing badly now. The departure of more and more migrants and workers from Central America is also causing the bottom of the market to empty out.

With the departure of these foreign workers, local companies are also losing turnover. The local economy is therefore also getting a double hit. The workers are leaving and with them some of the consumers.

But this summer there will also be far fewer tourists. The Canadians, for example, will no longer be coming in 2025. That much is clear. They were an important target group for Florida, but also for Las Vegas and the nature parks in the US.

All this is barely reflected in the figures. After all, the figures are lagging behind and summer has yet to come.

They've only been getting kicked out for the last couple months. That's not enough time to attribute their departure to anything (except for a loss in crime.)

I just got off the phone with Canada. They said they're still coming this summer.

Listen to yourself "the summer has yet to come." How much bs can you swallow in a single pill?

There has been a large spike in people departing voluntarily... in other
words, not being kicked out. There has also supposedly been a sharp drop
in the number of legal workers who were coming into the SW US every day and then going back home at night. Busses brought them in and out, and
employers are responsible for making sure they are on the bus in the
    evening.

Those workers don't want to put up with being hassled so they are not
    coming.

That might be true, but it sounds like number porn. Think about it like this: If they came in illegally, then how are they leaving in a way that we can measure?

"Hi, I came to your country illegally and now I am leaving voluntarily. Please mark me down in your log book." :)

"..and I'm doing it because racist Trump is hassling me and it's not worth the hassle."

Everything that uses numbers and statistics sounds like number porn when it disproves a point. ;)

    At border checkpoints.

"Hi, I came to your country illegally and now I am leaving voluntarily.
    lease
mark me down in your log book." :)

I am not certain all of them did come in illegally, but many are leaving on their own accord, legal or not.

    hassle."

It would be interesting to hear what their reasoning is.

It's hard to believe anyone's numbers regarding migrants. I've read reports and heard news with illegal migrants ranging from 7 million to 40 million. Now that Trump's been president for a couple months, how can the media expect us to swallow any more numbers this quickly?

The only solid numbers on illegal immigrants are the numbers of passengers on deportation flights, because airlines know how many people they have on board.

But all this stuff about "Many migrants are self-deporting" is not something that anybody can put a real number on.

I am not certain all of them did come in illegally, but many are leaving on their own accord, legal or not.

I haven't met one yet who said that he/she is illegal and leaving.

It would be interesting to hear what their reasoning is.

There's no reason for any of them to leave, and there's no reason for anyone of them to feel threatened by "if you get deported you won't be welcomed back." If the media wanted them to go back, they'd say so.
