Ah, I was wondering when people would start to notice.
I saw a newly dated version when g00r00 posted to Fidonet, so I fired up that VM and upgraded instantly. :)

I know, it's terrible!! :) I've been working on the door first, I think I got the door registered now (using SXCODE.ZIP from Titantic BBS) and a one
byte patch seems to be enough to allow it to work after the year 2000!
Now it's time to find a keygen for the Silver Xpress reader, there must be
one out there already...

For the record, you original message did, in fact, have a tearline and origin line. This is what I saw:
Chris/akacastor
+ Evaluation copy of Silver Xpress. Day # 1
-+- via Silver Xpress V4.01 [NR]
-+- Squish v1.11
+ Origin: Another Millennium - Canada - another.tel (21:1/162)
I've changed the dashes and asterisks so it doesn't break any software that it would normally break.

And here is what came through in this message. So looks like you had two tearlines and an origin line in the original, and one tearline and one origin in the second round.

Nick

For the record, you original message did, in fact, have
a tearline and origin line. This is what I saw:
After that message I logged into Agency and saw the same as you reported - the message had two tearlines and an origin line. So Squish did add the missing origin line, however it also added a duplicate tear line.
The next message, which did come through with correct tear and origin lines, had an origin line written correctly by Silver Xpress, so Squish didn't have to add one (or a tear line) when packing the message.
I think the Silver Xpress door is working correctly on my system now! (though I'm not using it to write this message)

If it is still messed up, then its the export of the message I need to look at.

Yup yup, this one looks good on my end.
Now that confuses me. Because I didnt change any code yet - I was trying to figure out where the problem might be.
Thinking about it, I have a hunch, my post might have come in with the old clrghouz code and gone out with the new one - which means my old mail in the DB might be problematic for a rescan (encoded incorrectly)... I'll double check that...
Thanks..

Test message looks good!
I'm curious about your dosbox/telix/bluewave setup - are you connecting via telnet or raw socket? And are file transfers working smoothly? Which version of dosbox?
(asking because I had to patch DOSBox-X for file transfers to work over telnet)

Which version of dosbox?
I'm using Dosbox-staging over telnet. I wanted to use Dosbox-X because it has paste but the telnet connections are much slower & have line noise.
Dosbox-staging has the phonebook (as does Dosbox-x) so I've mapped 5551212 to go to my BBS and a few other fake phone numbers to dial others in the Telix dialing directory so I don't have to manually type in atdt agency.bbs.nz
Downloads always work but uploads are hit & miss. Sometimes I just fire up Icy Term and upload it that way. I don't really intend to fully use offline mail, but it's a nostalgia trip for sure.
I really like using Telix, it's pretty quick and responsive. I have a patch that takes away the nag screens but it still says "Unregistered" in the bottom left of the screen.

noise.
The line noise is interesting - I don't think I have ever encountered that. I wonder if DOSBox-X is negotiating the telnet connection correctly. You have to send AT+NET1 to the 'modem' to properly enable the telnet protocol. (though it's possible this may be different if you're on a different version than I've been using) The telnet negotiation bytes might appear like line noise otherwise. (a theory)
I hadn't noticed the connection being slower, I wonder if that is because DOSBox-X is emulating the com port speed while maybe DOSBox-Staging doesn't delay the bytes to match com port speed.
Dosbox-staging has the phonebook (as does Dosbox-x) so I've mapped

I haven't actually been using the phonebook, but now that you mention it I realize I am silly not to. I just manually type in ATDTaddress to connect, for the boards that don't fit into the Telix dialing directory.
Downloads always work but uploads are hit & miss. Sometimes I just fire up Icy Term and upload it that way. I don't really intend to fully use offline mail, but it's a nostalgia trip for sure.
I know what the upload problem is! There's a bug in the DOSBox telnet implementation, it doesn't correctly escape FF bytes when sending (FF is also the IAC code used for telnet protocol negotiation). I've patched this in my copy of DOSBox-X but haven't upstreamed it anywhere yet. The good news is it's an easily solvable issue.

I am running Telix 3.22 and found a keygen for it, I think it's the same version I remember running back in the day so I've been happy with it.

I'm using v2024.03.01 of dosbox-x-sdl2 on a M2 MacBook Air running Sonoma 14.5.
I wasn't using AT+NET1 before to initialize, but tried just now and still get the linenoise & it's still slower than dosbox or dosbox-staging.
Here's an example of the linenoise (with AT+NET1):
https://ibb.co/V37VmZh
It's not constant, but it's enough to be annoying. I just had to hit enter to refresh the screen and it went away.
I haven't actually been using the phonebook, but now that you mention it
I realize I am silly not to. I just manually type in ATDTaddress to connect, for the boards that don't fit into the Telix dialing directory.
I seem to remember using a script or something to auto log me into the boards, there's a spot for a password in the dialing directory but I can't recall how to get that to send. I should probably RTFM but it's 10:42pm and I'm tired.

If we could get past the slower connection & linenoise I'd be willing to try.
I had to type that imgbb URL like a caveman into this Telix window in Dosbox-staging! ;)

Oh cool, that's the same version I'm running, I'm even on an M2 Macbook also. Have you built DOSBox-X from source? Really what I'm asking is, would you prefer to apply patches and build DOSBox-X yourself, or should I send you my compiled DOSBox-X and you can try it out.
I wasn't using AT+NET1 before to initialize, but tried

The line noise is a new problem to me, I haven't encountered that before. I don't think it's related to the telnet protocol, it looks like data corruption or dropped bytes causing the ANSI sequences to not be interepreted correctly.
Here's an example of the linenoise (with AT+NET1):
https://ibb.co/V37VmZh
Thanks for the screenshot, it's an issue I haven't run into myself yet, but I think it should be solvable as DOSBox-X is working great on my M2 Macbook.
I seem to remember using a script or something to auto
log me into the boards, there's a spot for a password in
the dialing directory but I can't recall how to get that
to send. I should probably RTFM but it's 10:42pm and
I'm tired.
I also don't remember specifics of the Telix scripting, I think that entering the password in the dialing directory probably makes it available to whatever login script we select for the BBS. I haven't tried a Telix login script in 30 years though so don't listen to me for any useful information. :)
If we could get past the slower connection & linenoise
I'd be willing to try.
I think we can solve these issues. The slower connection may require another patch to DOSBox-X but I think I have an idea how it would work and it would be an interesting feature to add.
Another option - DOSBox Staging can also be patched to fix uploads over telnet (by properly escaping the telnet IAC byte). It's a very small fix.
I had to type that imgbb URL like a caveman into this
Telix window in Dosbox-staging! ;)
Yeah copy and paste is definitely a huge feature to have. :)
I've been playing a lot in DOSBox (mostly DOSBox-X but checking other versions here and there) and am more than willing to help get things running optimally, if you're willing to spend some time troubleshooting and testing some patches. I've been kinda waiting for someone to come along and run into some of the same issues I had, to find the best way to fix it and to test it well.

OK that sounds good! If you want I can call into your BBS and upload it, or I can put it on Another Millennium BBS for you, or I can attach it to netmail, or send you a Dropbox link.. Whatever's easiest for you. :)

I used to have a public facing BBS, at first it was Mystic, then it was Telegard, then it was Mystic again. Now it's just a linux VPS running hpt & binkd. I use Mystic just as a message reader for the JAM bases.
One of these days I might put Telegard back up as a public facing BBS, I still have it on a powered down VM on a NUC here at the house but I need to figure out if we're moving before getting that all set back up.
