Not exactly retro computing, but more retro search engine related. Back in late
September 1998 I was introduced to Google. I was taking a university course in which I
was required to use a computer to search for 38 questions to try and find the answers
to.
We were told that we could use any search engine we wanted, but that no one had ever
got all of the questions correct.
Because I was into web design back then, I learned early on about the new search
engine called Google. Most everyone taking the test used one of the known engines like
Dogpile, Netscape Navigator (I believe it as called) or any of the others available back
then.
I was the only one that got all of the questions correct. The instructor was surprised
when I told him I used Google. He had never heard of it because it was brand new at
the time.
To me, that was proof that Google was THE search engine from the very start and
probably continues to be today.
I always made sure to submit all of the sites that I designed were submitted to Google
and always made my customers happy that their sites were indexed successfully and
producing many hits.
