Sc> Researchers have detected a connection between Brachyspira, a
genus of bacteria in the intestines, and IBS -- especially the form
that causes diarrhea. Although the discovery needs confirmation in
larger studies, there is hope that it might lead to new remedies
for many people with irritable bowel syndrome.
I've often thought that a lot of common "digestive" issues like diarrhea, constipation, ulcers, propensity for weight gain (or loss), is heavily influenced by gut flora. It's exciting to see research like this. If we can learn to "engineer" the bacteria in our bodies for maximum benefit I think it could really improve lives.
