So... I've been enjoying learning about SoC's and beginning to program them to do different things.

I ordered a bunch of ESP8266s - they have Wifi & bluetooth so they are fairly capable. I ordered a couple ESP32s, again wifi - some models have bluetooth, and these run at 240mhz which is double the ESP8266... I got an ESP32-CAM which

is just an ESP32 with a camera module installed... but it doesn't have its own mini-USB programmer so... I haven't been able to upload to it because... well, the 5V from my computer won't power both the programmer AND it. (This can be easily remedied by supplying 5v directly to the ESP32-Cam, but... I'm still new

    here! Give me some slack!)

Anyway... I do this only for the knowledge, and learning about Wifi setups... but, I've created a wifi access point (Think "FreeLocalWifi" or "Starbucks" or "McDonalds") that phishes for passwords. I can load any real world webpage, I'm

    not the hacker - I just downloaded a WebConverter.py... but anyway, I've created a wifi-bug...

I've also made a Wifi hacker/jammer. It simply exploits basic vulnerabilities in wifi access points; I can jam the wifi signal, I can create tons of duplicate wifi access points to confuse BASIC hardware, etc.

These are just the beginning, as I haven't started to play with what *I* can create around my house.. what can I do with these SoCs to play with my BBS? What can I control at home?

Does anyone else like to play in the Arduino, SoC sandbox??? It really is.... interesting. I'm interested in creating my own products... or at least - THINGS. I'm wondering if anyone knows of really good communities out there that

discuss and talk about these types of projects?

You can really do a LOT with these - you can CREATE hardware, software, and THINGS---> And I want to.

    Anyone? Bueller???

That's naughty. I think I read they have a version of that which looks just like an iphone charger, so you can plug it in under someones desk and cause havok.

Build one of those key logger plugs that sits between the keyboard and the computer.

Yea, I absolutely want to doso...

What I'm currently doing is finding fairly decent, naughty, projects... loading

them... learning them... and digging into the code to try and learn what they're doing/help with the open source project.

I literally don't use them on any networks other than my own, BUT I do like to know whats available. Most of the things that are [easily] publicly available are a year or more outdated. Apple products have good protection against these BASIC/known issues - but theres plenty of devices I've tested against that fall

    right into the trap.

A local, hardware connected keylogger IS a little harder to get around. That will be one of my next things.

Furthermore, I have a pineapple wifi hotspot which DOES more things... better... but I'm getting off designing these TINY chips that do one of the functions... fun.

Have you played with Kali linux at all? Seems like it could be up your alley.

I do have an instance of it on an SDCard... for an ARM processor laptop; and its cool - I do NOT know all the hackery/security things it can do... but I was

learning to look at, use and attempt to crack PCAP wifi files.

Thats another project I whipped up, a pwnagotchi... like a kids tomagotchi, but

it sniffs out wifi connections (PCAP files) all day and really is just a infrastructure to LEARN about wifi. It's pretty informative - however, I've still found that its hard to crack the handshake files... which I know people can DO. So... I know nothing, but I love to tinker and learn along the way.

    Hallo paulie420,

discuss and talk about these types of projects?
You can really do a LOT with these - you can CREATE hardware, software, and THINGS---> And I want to.

I'm using some ESP8266 "D1 mini" modules, mostly for retrocomputing :)

I've built one that acts as a WiFi modem, it uses the "esp_modem" firmware that I've changed slightly to fit my needs. It emulates a modem (so it understands AT commands) and is connected to one of my RC2014 Z80
computers running CP/M and a terminal program.

Another nice option is the "ESPterm" firmware, it acts as a terminal: It features a webserver that you can connect to via a webbrowser. On this webpage, you then see a "terminal window" that is talking via the serial
port of the ESP8266 to the attached machine, eg. a Z80 CP/M computer :)

And I'm experimenting (I guess, the next time slot for this is during the christmas holiday period) with an "IR blaster" firmware, so that I can
attach an IR diode and IR receiver to the ESP8266 and then can receive and send IR codes to control (in my case:) a ceiling light that normally uses
an IR remote control. (So I can integrate it into HomeAssistant *g*).

The biggest project I'm a little part of is the "VT132" terminal module
for RC2014 compatible computers. It uses an ESP32 to feature a VT100- compatible terminal (with VGA and PS/2 or USB connectors) and also a WiFi modem. I'm part of the beta testing team and this is a really nice module
for my CP/M machines, to make them stand-alone computers :)

So, I'm not that much into real developing of software/firmware for the
ESPs, but more into using and tweaking existing software :)

    Greetings from Germany,
    Anna

Both are wicked cool... I did somewhat the same, and from there I started playing with ESP32s.

I use them for Home Automation...
