Hey Everyone,

This is my very first message ever in a BBS! Thanks to an LGR video on
"Wifi232 Wireless Modem: BBS Fun on Retro PCs", I went on a journey of
learning more about what these platforms are! Yesterday, I watched the "Al's Geek Lab" documentary and am now here I am, giving it a try!

I love to watch videos about retro tech even though I don't really own any :) LGR and 8BitGuy are 2 of my favorites!

I still have lots of BBS's to discover, but already I love the simplistic, primitive aesthetic that you just don't get with modern platforms.

I hope this message finds its way to someone and look forward to checking
back!

Awesome, foobar - This is what I love most about the BBS Community... new friends that find us and come experience BBSing. 2o21 is truly a good time to be involved with them!

I remember a time when I thought BBSes were going to BE the future... where computing was being advanced and developed into 'tomorrow'. Funny that its ended up being the retro tech that I could never get away from. I hope the bug bites you, too, foobar. Theres tons of friends and community here to be found... I hope you decide to sniff around a lot more.

Hey Paulie!

Having only spent 1 day so far exploring around on BBS's, I can already say that I haven't felt this level of excitement of discovery in quite a while!
It makes me feel like I'm a kid again! My first ever experience with a computer, was an old Toshiba laptop running Windows 95. I remember learning
how to change the desktop wallpaper, and was so amazed when I was young :). There is a true beauty in the simplicity of how old software and
tech works and the limitations it has. Even though BBS's have been around
well before I was born, to me so far this feels like a brand new platform
that stands out much more than any modern social media that exists today! (Added bonus of not being tracked all over the place :D)

I'm glad there is still a community to discover here. I like that it's not so mainstream, so it feels more 'exclusive'... Like a secret hangout spot..

BTW, Thank you for your suggestions of other BBS's to try! I'll be sure to let you know what I like!

Yessir, there are a LOT of BBSes around, not nearly as many as back in the day I should imagine, but it's a thriving community, and glad you're taking your part in it.

Haha, ya I can appreciate the modern internet allowing for that. I am using SyncTERM to browse here. I tried running an emulated slow speed, like 9600 BAUD, but decided it's okay to have full speed :).. Perhaps, if I was running on genuine retro hardware, the slowness of lines loading would add more to
the charm. Nowadays sites are so bloated, it's nice to have something truly lightweight.

I'm loving the ways ANSI is used though! Amazing to see the UI's created from basic characters.

Ya, I also checked out that guide! Indeed it is useful.. I've started to explore a few others. One that immediately stood out was Acid Underworld..
The large collection of ANSI art was pleasing to look at. Definitely lives up to the name!


I will say so far that this BBS has been easiest to navigate IMO.. But I'm
sure as I use more and more, I'll get used to the different nuances between
all of them :)

What I do, on my BBS, is program in slower ANSI speeds for screens that would benefit from being seen at a more 'retro' pace. You know, super long ANSI screens that look great at 57.6 or 28.8k... but for most things, like menus are



















































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































































message listings - file listings, etc... I let those fly by so the user experience is as good as possible.

Some things in life feel better slowed down.. errr.

When you say 'this BBS' are you referring to my one? (al's geek lab?). If so, yay! It's just a new venture for me. I literally opened the BBS officialy today, so I'm glad it is 'user friendly' for new users. That is my exact intention!
