My primary platform is Mac OS Catalina, and I run Parallels for various linux containers. My Synchronet BBS is running in Parallels on Ubuntu. I thought about running it in native MacOS, which is supposedly possible but I wanted to isolate it somewhat and a container seemed like a good way to do that.

Containers are pretty rad on the whole, have you used Docker at all? I know that we have somewhat of a Docker expert amongst us in Deon, I installed Parallels once for some peo

You could run Synchronet in docker on the MAC - which is what I do when I'm testing stuff. It works well, but probably not as fast as in Parallels because of the filesystem access.

I havent used Parallels ever - I'm a VMware guy as well - although I dont seem to use VM that much anymore on the Mac (since docker came so easy to use).

For Docker on Mac are you using Docker Desktop? I haven't played with it yet but it's probably something I should checkout.

Big Sur is a big update to Mac OS mainly because it includes support for their new ARM powered custom Apple Silicon (to replace Intel CPUs). It also has some

big UI updates that make pretty big changes to the look and feel. Apple even bumped the version finally, so it's Mac OS 11 instead of Mac OS X.

Thats basically why I'm thinking of holding off. I usually update on day 0 of any Mac OS release because I'm a fanboi but a lot of the beta testers are complaining about issues....

I did finally upgrade to Big Sur 2 weeks ago, when 11.2 came out. No problems at all with the upgrade, which took about an hour. Everything seems fine so far. Even all my shell customizations survived... usually a major OS update wipes them all out.... so that was cool.
