Thinking in the case of Mystic that without the (out of date) videos
Avon put up, and some help from those who had done a Mystic board
already, that I would have found the time commitment too extensive to
put up by BBS.
Thinking the current situation presumes a new Mystic Sysop is either
very well versed in how things work or has access to help who does know their way around BBSes.
I agree that the videos that Paul has made and let up on YouTube are
great resources for help albeit a little out of date now. But it
wouldn't be that difficult for some of us to be able to produce new
videos to keep it updated as there are quite a few experienced Mystic Sysops amongs us now.
I found between the videos Paul put up, and the wiki I got everything I needed to get the BBS off the ground, and then adding fsxNet (the first net I joined) posting questions there was always met with positivity and helpfulness.

Would be awesome if the videos were updated.
What would folks want out of updated videos? Just covering the new versions of software, and the current eccentricities of installation? (Cryptlib doesn't wanna compile on Ubuntu, etc...) and fsxNet setup??
Cover other BBS softwares? Cover ddns.net domain use? (Or synchro.net / TQW domains)?

Having just gone through the process (and a few times as testing out different software and landing on Mystic), the videos were *very*
helpful.
One of the areas where they could do with updates is around the changes
to the interface - digging around you can either find the settings to change or test and make adjustments where necessary. This is
particularly true for the FTN setup.
Could also touch on some of the other areas around specifically customisation around menus, etc.
But at the end of the day, the videos are a very very valuable resource.
... We all live in a yellow subroutine...
I can't see new vid's doing much of anything more then Avon's originals unless you are going to cover things he didn't cover. Such as FTP which you are looking at, or using the web interface which is very
rudimentary, maybe getting into some uses OTHER then a BBS, file
servers, door servers, login Servers, bot blockers. All being done with Mystic base systems. Other then that, there really isn't much else.
Maybe I am not seeing the use of vids..
I'd be willing to contribute a "how to setup Telegard w/ Fastecho & Allfix" segment if we're doing other BBS software (if time permits).
Well - the 'problem' is that his videos are 4 years outdated... nothing crazy, but the new compile cryptlib stuff - that might not even be an issue since the 12 months I've taken a look at it. Or, other things like
I think he was on a46 - and a48 is now the 'stable'.
And other 'things' like where can sysops get the 'newest' [totally old
and outdated] MPL documentation - or, how to install other softwarez like Synchronet or Enigma .5....
Go for it!! :) I would love a vid series on programming with MPL, maybe
it would get me to learn it, I can't grasp it. When I see others in the same boat as me everyone says it is easy if you know basic this is just like it, well I know basic, but MPL is TOUGH! I would love a series on that. As for other softwares, Synchronet is simple to set up, but some
of the internal workings are tough, and I know Rob has a video series already on that. BUT Enigma might be nice, I ran Enigma for a couple of years, if you read some of the messages that went back and forth between myself and NuSkooler you'll see it wasn't the easiest at least for me. A vid on that would be good..
Yea - I might think of a different topic than installing Mystic; Avon mentioned that he still wants to create a video in the [near?] future.
Thats funy, b/c I think MPL is easier than current languages - but
that's only b/c I'd used a [tiny bit of] PASCAL back in the day.
I really like the Enigma.5 project; a pretty 'current' node.js BBS
project that NuSkooler has continued to work on thru the years. Love it.

Ok - interesting. My first love was Telegard, and Renegade after that bit... I'd love to see more infoz about the legacy softwarez.

MPL I can't grasp!!! I even went as far as have AI write me a program so
I could see how to use it and I couldn't get it..LOL
I can't believe that - you run circles around me in other BBS softwares; MPL isn't too hard to grasp, I'll share some tutorials and example MPL with you if you like... for the basic stuff, its easy to customize using MPL.
