So this is a new release for Raspberry Pi boards... I am using a Pi 4 w/ 8gb, but I do believe they released it for other versions of the Pi too.
ARM is coming, and to the server side too... I'm just giving this a run for the experience, really... It is VMWare, runing inside the Pi - I've tried Debian, Ubuntu Server and Ubuntu... Windows 10 won't boot, even
with the 1.2 firmware that allows you to boot into Win10 on a Pi *with issues*.
ESXi works perfectly, is free, and functions as if you installed it on a badass server... well, a server with the specs of an RPi 4... :P
Anyone interested in this? Just goto VMWare and grab ESXi on ARM for Pi.

Hmmm now that is not a bad idea.. I wonder how it will run on a 4gb version. I just got one a few weeks ago and other then contemplating setting up a PBX phone system on it I used it to fix a HD that went bad
on me Friday night. Other then that it has been sitting on my shelf waiting for a project. GOnna have to check this out..

But I'm a huge fan of ESXi - use it all the time. For me, I treat it like firmware - ie: it enables you to partition a machine, gives you a remote console (via a
browser which is a plus), perfect for me, since I run everything
headless.
I'll be moving my BBS and hub over to a VM very soon...

Thats exactly why I am testing it, too... I don't use ESXi as much as you- I don't have a powerful enough server to run daily driver stuff; but depending
on speed of an RPi 1gb & 8gb, I might do a headless for my BBS too - forthe ease factor; I currently use ssh/VLC, but if it were all in one it would be

Hmmmm, I have seen the PBX softwares, that set up your house or biz with PBX and hold, accounts etc... but you just gave me an idea;
I collect antiques, and want to run my vintage phones around the house. I wonder if theres any software that actually supplies VOIP service to your home phone network; like a magicjack.
The PBX you used doesn't do that, does it?? I'll update this post if I find a solution, too.
Hi Paulie!
That's pretty cool! I've been using ESXI for years. Do you know the minimum requirements for the Pi version?
This is actually really neat, and I was looking at a few videos about
that too before I make the purchase of said RPi... the ESXi installation is only for 6 months though, after that you "have" to pay for a license, which is putting me off.
On my current hypervisor I run Proxmox VE which is free, unless I want support or enterprise solutions and then it costs. I thought VMWare did
an offering like that, but everywhere I look since reading your initial message seems to suggest that ESXi is not free after 6 months use.
Still a very interesting project, and I am wondering if I can get
Proxmox on the RPi, if so... that's what I will get a RPi for. 8GB ram
and quad core should make it a really nice system for hosting containers and virtualising lots of stuff. Get a couple and one could make a
cluster.
Exciting times
Actualy, I haven't done the project yet. I saw it on a YouTube video and was interested in it, I am 99% sure there is a PBX project that uses the ObiHai 202 box and allows Google Voice to be your VOIP service.. I have the ObiHai and have 4 phone numbers on it. I use 1 for Fax, one for Data (Not hooked up to my BBS right now) 1 for my personal voice calls, and
one ready to be used as a Support Line for Image BBS for the C64 when we release v3.0 if I decide to open a support line... If I do set it up I will let you know how it goes..
Thanks, Bucko... please do - If I can use a Pi to get my vintage/antique phone line telephones ringing in the house, I'd be super stoked. I'm
sure I can find the main telephone line and plug into the Pi so that all the phone jack boxes around the house would be live. :P That would be wicked cool, for me.

Yeah, easy peasy.
You can run freepbx, or maybe even 3cx.
With the old phones you'll need an ATA though, that speaks SIP on one side, and provides the 5V(?) and analog on the other (to the handset).
I used to run freepbx on a beaglebone black - worked well for home.
